The Department of Mathematics was established in the year of 1969 with the motive logical thinking among the students and promote Mathematical thoughts. B.Sc. Mathematics course was started in the year 1972 in the medium of Tamil and English with the intake capacity of 20 students. M.Sc. Mathematics course was started in the year of 1985 with intake capacity of 15 students. Required the extra Number of sheets for B.Sc. mathematics, so we introduced shift system for additional section was started in the year of 2007.
M.Phil. course was started in the year of 2012 with total scholar capacity of 5 and Ph.D., programme (Full time & Part time) was started in the year of 2012 totally 6 scholars was joined on that year. B.Sc. Mathematics strength was increased to 36 in both the shifts in year of 2013-14. The seats has been increased to 180 in both the sections for UG course from the academic year 2021-22 onwards. And 35 seats is available for PG course.
The department well equipped with furnished computer laboratories for PG students. Multimedia and LCD projector facilities are available in the computer lab. The department library is housed with nearly 5000 books. E-learning is encouraged for the students through Google class rooms. The department is functioning successfully with 2 regular faculties, 8 Guest lecturers and 1 PTA lecturer. The faculty members act as mentors, guiding students to develop technical skills and soft skills. Our department to inculcate innovative skills, team-work and ethical practices among students so as to meet societal expectations.
