Profile

The Department of Tamil was established with the part I Tamil Subject in the year 1969. The Head Of the Department was Tmt. R. Mallika. In the year 1979 when Tmt. Swarmikannu Chellaiah was the Head of the Department (H.O.D), the Department started its major course with Part III Tamil Literature. Tmt A.J. Mahalakshmi was the Head of the Department (H.O.D) in the academic year 181-1982. Again from 1982 Tmt. Swamikannu Chellaiah became the Head of the Department and continued as the same till her retirement. Her service rendered for the improvement and upliftment of the institution is remarkable and needs a word to be mentioned here.

From the year 2000-2004 May Tmt. Dr. N. Nalini Devi laid her hand on the steering and balanced her drive as the Head Of the Department It was only during this period the department It was only during this period the department introduced the Post Graduate Course under Self Financing. The Department celebrates with the great 'Pomp and Show' the 'Muthamizh Vizha' every year. The two periodicals 'Kurunji' and Muzhakkam' were published for the past two years by the Department Students.

In the financial year 2019-2020 Tmt. Dr. S. Amutha Head of the department introduced the M. Phil., and Ph.D., Research course under self financing. It is an a another milestone of our department.
