Profile

The Department of Zoology was established in the year 1974 to educate women students belonging to rural areas. B.Sc Zoology was introduced with the intake capacity of 20 students each in Tamil and English medium.The PG Zoology course was introduced in the year 2005 with 20 students. Due to the overwhelming response from the students, the strength has been increased to 40 in both the medium of B.Sc Zoology and 25 in M.Sc Zoology from the academic year 2021-22 onwards with the current strength of 80 students in UG and 25 students in PG.

The department is equipped with well-furnished UG and PG laboratories with advanced types of equipment for providing practical training to students. An LCD projector is available in our department to implement the modern teaching tools.

The department library is housed with nearly 1900 books. All the staff members are effectively utilizing ICT tools for teaching. E-learning is encouraged for the students through Google classrooms. The department is functioning successfully with 5 regular faculty, 5guest lecturers and 1 lab assistant. The faculty members act as mentors, guiding students to develop practical skills and soft skills.

  • Adapt to the technologically changing environment and reinvent themselves for the betterment of mankind.
  • Promote learning at all levels of biological organization and self employment in Sericulture, Aquaculture,Apiculture and Vermiculture and promote leaders in the field of life science.
  • To establish awareness regarding the Biodiversity in order to give a healthier environment to the society.
